Rodney Crowell was born in Houston, Texas. You could say that he was destined to play music because he came from a long line of musicians. His grandfather sang in the church choir and his grandmother played guitar. His father had a band and performed in local honky-tonks. Rodney joined his dad’s band when he was 11 years old and played the drums.

Throughout his teen years, Rodney Crowell played with several different rock bands. Eventually, he moved to Nashville and got hooked up with Jerry Reed. He became a talented songwriter. Emmylou Harris recorded one of his songs and she loved it so much, she requested to meet him. After meeting, she asked Rodney to join her band. He accepted and his the road with her band playing the rhythm guitar.

Many artists recorded his music. Waylon Jennings scored a hit with, “Ain’t Living Long Like This.” Oak Ridge Boys recorded “Leaving Louisiana,” and even Bob Seger has big success with the song, “Shame On The Moon.”

Recently, Rodney Crowell has been honored with the Academy of Country Music’s Poet’s Award for his success in writing songs.
