Beware Of Those Fun Little Facebook Quizzes

Social media can be a fun way for people to stay in touch and interact. It can also, unfortunately, be a minefield. Those “fun” little questionnaires that pop up in your feed are often scams designed to mine your personal data & steal your identity. Before responding, check to see who created it. If you’re not sure you trust the brand, pass it by.

Check the privacy settings on the account. Questions about your first car, your mother’s maiden name, and the street you grew up on are often designed to help scammers learn your passwords.

Don’t share your phone number or home address on your social media accounts. Don’t accept friend requests from people you don’t know. Don’t accept requests that appear to be from people you’re already friends with. Social media is like taking a drive or going for a swim. It can be fun, but if you’re not careful, it can be dangerous.
