Tips For Fireworks Safety

The Lafayette Fire Department is urging caution when using fireworks this 4th of July holiday. There will be professional fireworks displays in the Acadiana area. If choose to have your own, the Lafayette Fire Department urges you to take precautions.

The US Consumer Products Safety Commission reports about 200 people make emergency room visits every day during the 4th of July holiday. The most common injuries are to the hands and face. Fireworks are explosives and are dangerous.

Officials urge you to have a fire extinguisher or water handy. Don’t try to relight a dud. Keep children at a safe distance. Don’t light fireworks if you’ve had a lot to drink. After your fireworks are spent, douse them with water. These precautions will help you have a happy and safe Fourth of July.
